Where are the Overwatch competitors? – Class-based arena shooters are lacking
Overwatch is a multiplayer, team-based first-person shooter created by Blizzard. It focuses on three hero classes – support, damage, and tank – and invites players to focus on specific roles. With strong, slightly cartoonish graphics, solid movement, and gunplay, Overwatch is a well-made and polished game. We played Overwatch on PC, paying close attention to the plot, gameplay, and graphics.
For Overwatch, you’ll need to create an account with Blizzard and first download the Blizzard Game Manager. Once you’ve created an account and done this, you can then download the game itself. This may take a while as the game is quite large, but once you’re done you’ll be able to dive right in. The main menu has a lot to look at, including an option to view the different heroes and read about their abilities, which can be useful to do before you start playing.
Overwatch itself doesn’t have much of a plot built into the game, but Blizzard has released short animated sequences to give fans a taste of the game’s lore. The general plot of the game takes place on an alternate Earth. In the past, something called an “Omnic Crisis” occurred. Humans created AI (Omnics) that evolved into sentient beings. But when the same people who created these Omnics started creating killer AI, the humans came together to form Overwatch.
