Panasonic WXF991/VX981 camcorder review!
The consumer camcorder market is no longer the thriving, hyper-competitive space it once was. DSLRs, mirrorless cameras and even smartphones have invaded and eaten up a large portion of the market share that camcorders once held. Despite this, there is a leader in the 4K camcorder market in the form of the Panasonic HC-WXF991. It can shoot sharp 4K video, has a cleverly designed viewfinder and extensive Wi-Fi functionality. We found it to be a well-rounded option that will suit the needs of many buyers, despite its slightly high price tag.
The body of the Panasonic HC-WXF991 looks nearly identical to most other camcorders in Panasonic’s lineup, including the HC-VX981K, HC-VX870K and even its 1080p cousin the HC-V770. While these all appear quite similar at first glance, there are a few notable features that set this camcorder apart.
Starting with the front, the Panasonic HC-WXF991 features a 20x optical zoom Leica Dicomar lens, as opposed to the no-name lens on some of the cheaper models. What’s more, Panasonic has thrown in a lens hood, which should come in handy for protecting the lens from accidental knocks.
