Paramedic in Romania pretends to perform mountain rescue using jetsuit
Paramedics from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) are training with jet suits to reach and treat medical emergencies in the UK’s Lake District faster than ever before. Other paramedics Lifewire spoke to are excited about the development, but also concerned about its usefulness in real-world emergencies.
“I think in areas with rough terrain or longer response times on the ground, it could be very helpful,” Christopher Hammett, a firefighter-paramedic with the Pinellas Park Fire Department in Florida, told Lifewire via WhatsApp. “A single or dual jetpack response seems far-fetched, but it could make all the difference in early stabilization and life-saving interventions.”
The jetsuit used in the GNAAS trial was designed by Gravity Industries, founded by British inventor Richard Browning, who not only created the portable flying machine but also served as its chief test pilot. In 2019, Browning broke his own speed record by flying the jetsuit at over 85 mph.
