On Monday, the Paramount Plus Essential plan will replace the streaming service's $5.99-per-month Limited Commercials plan, offering a slightly cheaper $4.99-per-month alternative. Android Police discovered a new FAQ on the Paramount+ website detailing the streaming service's new Essential plan.
5 Things to Know Before Signing Up for Paramount+ | Paramount Plus Review
In terms of features, the Essential plan is similar to the current Limited Commercials plan. Both include limited commercial breaks, on-demand streaming for thousands of TV shows and movies, access to live NFL games on CBS, and CBSN 24-hour news. However, as Engadget notes, Essential will exclude local CBS broadcast channels.
According to the Paramount+ site, users on the Limited Commercials plan will be able to keep their subscriptions as long as they don’t change or cancel their subscription. Anyone who’s more interested in their current plan will still have the opportunity to sign up before the June 7 switchover. However, Limited Commercials users who want to switch to Essential can easily do so. Just keep in mind that there’s no way to switch back. Whether or not the loss of local CBS streaming is a deal-breaker depends on the user, but it’s a detail worth knowing before you sign up or switch.
The current Limited Commercials Plan costs $5.99 per month ($59.99 per year), while Essential costs slightly less at $4.99 per month ($49.99 per year). Those who prefer to avoid ads can also opt for the Commercial Free plan for $9.99 per month ($99.99 per year).
