While Larian Studios has no plans to develop a sequel or DLC for Baldur's Gate 3, it appears the company is still not done with the game. Patch 7, a major release scheduled for September, will not be the game's last update, according to the devs.

BG3 Patch 7 is AWESOME! Baldurs Gate 3 has done it again!

Patch 7 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to be one of the game’s biggest updates, aiming to add a ton of features and revamp existing ones. It will officially introduce the Baldur’s Gate 3 modding kit, a ton of new cinematics, bug fixes, and more. The closed beta for Patch 7 begins on July 22nd and, despite Larian’s CEO stating otherwise, it won’t be the game’s last update, as the developers have more planned for after it goes live in September.

“It’s not goodbye,” the developers wrote in a Steam post today. “The journey isn’t over yet,” adding that they “still have a few things in store.” This includes numerous features requested by the community over the past year, like cross-play and a photo mode. Larian is also “working on a multitude of improvements” focused on gameplay, performance, and quality of life improvements. The studio will let players know when these updates will go live “at a later date.”

Baldur's Gate 3 has seen six massive patches that added a ton of features not present in the game's initial release. From improving romance options to adding an entirely new Epilogue segment, the studio has been continually expanding the Baldur's Gate 3 experience for free. Patch 7 was potentially set to be the final update, but it seems the developers love the game too much to just let it go, even as they gear up for their next big project.
