ARPG Path of Exile 2 was first announced a whopping five years ago. The sequel to the reigning king of the genre, fans were recently excited to finally be given a beta date of June 6th, 2024, where they could finally get their hands on the game. Unfortunately, they’ll have to wait a little longer, as the beta has been delayed indefinitely, with an alpha set to take place in June.
Path of Exile 2 just keeps getting better
The new beta date for Path of Exile 2 hasn't even been announced internally yet; Grinding Gear Games' Game Director Jonathan Rogers is keeping it open, saying it'll release later this year (he's leaning toward the last quarter).
As for the reason behind the delay, he describes it as a simple problem of underestimating the time needed to polish the game. Asked to elaborate, Rogers told us, "Everything will be in the game by June; we just need to work on the polish. In development, you have the boss in the game and you think it's done and good, but wait! You find out there's a bunch of things that need to be changed. So we have to iterate until it's at a higher quality level."
