Revered CRPG developer Owlcat Games (Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous; Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader) is entering the publishing world today. Their stated goal: to help independent developers around the world bring story-driven titles and RPGs to everyone. Considering the high quality of the studio’s own games (a few remaining issues with Rogue Trader aside), this is excellent news for fans of RPGs and top-tier stories.
Owlcat announces they will be publishing games
To start, Owlcat will be publishing Rue Valley and Shadow of the Road (pictured below). The former is a terribly unique-sounding and intriguing narrative Disco Elyiusm-esque RPG featuring a man trapped in a time loop while undergoing psychotherapy (a bit of a Hellblade vibe, perhaps), while the latter is an isometric turn-based RPG set in an alternate history feudal Japan. And by alternate history, I mean steampunk and supernatural entities (known as yokai in Japanese). (Sign me up, for God’s sake.)
Rue Valley comes from Emotion Spark Studio (based in Serbia), while Shadow of the Road (based in Poland) is being developed by Another Angle Games. Both studios were chosen after Owlcat reviewed over 50 different titles.
Both games are still in early stages, but we'll get our first real look at them at this year's Gamescom (August 20-25).
