Spain's most iconic modern arthouse filmmaker, Pedro Almodóvar, will be honored on September 26 with the Donostia Award for career achievements by the country's most prestigious festival, San Sebastian.

Always a bridesmaid and now a bride, Almodóvar has presented his fair share of Donostia Awards in the past, with the likes of Antonio Banderas, Al Pacino and Woody Allen. Now, the iconic director will receive his own Donostia Award, alongside Cate Blanchett, who also won the prize in 2024.
In addition to receiving the award, Almodovar will present his latest film, “The Room Next Door,” which will be shown as a Donostia Award screening following its world premiere in Venice on September 2.
Almodóvar's relationship with San Sebastian began in 1980 with "Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón", which was staged at that year's festival by Diego Galán, a critic for the Spanish newspaper El Pais and artistic director of San Sebastian from 1986 to 1989 and 1995 to 2000. Almodóvar's second film, "Labyrinth of Passions", was also shown in competition at San Sebastian.
