The next mainline Borderlands game could be announced very soon if Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford's words are to be taken literally. After all, the timing seems right: the Borderlands movie is just around the corner, and we had Borderlands 3 a good five years ago.

"I'm confident that our fans are going to be very, very excited about the next video game project when we can announce it," Pitchford told GamesRadar in a July 27 interview. "I'll tell you, we're not going to keep people waiting long before we announce it."
While this could potentially point to a hypothetical Borderlands 4, a 2022 sequel to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands isn't out of the question. Gearbox had "a better outcome with the first Wonderlands game" compared to the first Borderlands game. "So that's something we can build on," Pitchford added.
Earlier this year, in February, Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 were mentioned on the LinkedIn profile of a former Gearbox employee. While it's not entirely clear whether we'll be getting announcements for those games anytime soon, Pitchford's recent comments should get fans of the looter shooter series excited.
