Philips on Wednesday patched the firmware of its Hue Hub, fixing a long-standing security hole that security researchers at Check Point Software discovered and reported to Philips a few weeks ago.

This vulnerability allowed hackers to connect to Philips Hue smart bulbs. In addition to changing the color and brightness, they could also install malicious firmware that would allow them to connect to your home network if the bulb was removed and reinstalled on the network via Hue Hub.

Your Hue firmware should have automatically updated if your Hub is connected to the internet. You can check the Phillips Hue app on your smartphone to make sure it is updated as well.
