Bytedance and its subsidiary Pico have just unveiled a revamped version of their popular VR headset, which is similar to the Meta Quest 2 in many ways and better than it in others.
The specs of the Pico 5 are CRAZY!!
The Pico 4 offers both a standalone and PC-connected experience, like the Quest 2, but it includes something Meta has yet to crack: full-color passthrough. In VR terms, passthrough refers to seeing the world around you while you’re using the device, useful for avoiding furniture, finding controllers, and generally monitoring the source of external noise.
Quest 2 only offers extremely grainy black and white passthrough, making it difficult to see what's going on when you're wearing the headset. The Pico 4 promises to solve this problem with full color and higher definition.
Elsewhere, the specs are solid, giving the Meta a real run for its money in the standalone VR headset department. The Pico 4 is powered by a Qualcomm XR2 processor, an Adreno 650 GPU and 8GB of RAM. Battery life is good for three hours of use per charge, and each eye display offers a better than 4K resolution, at 4,320 x 2,160, with a 105-degree field of view.
