Google rolled out a surprise update to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro on Wednesday that the company claims improves the performance of the under-display fingerprint scanner.
How do I improve the UNDER-DISPLAY FINGERPRINT scanner on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro?!
The fingerprint scanner is a feature that has been plaguing users since the Pixel 6 came out. Previously, Google blamed the lack of responsiveness and bugs on “advanced security algorithms.” Now, however, it has rolled out a surprise update to address the sensor’s performance, and you can download it right now.
Under-display systems aren’t exactly new, though users have reported sluggish responsiveness from the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Additionally, many users have reported that the sensor sometimes wouldn’t read their fingerprint, and we’ve even seen reports of Pixel 6 phones being able to be unlocked with someone else’s fingers .
Reddit users have reported some success with the update, which makes the fingerprint sensor more responsive when using screen protectors. However, many have also reported that the scanner still fails frequently. Google noted that certain screen protectors can cause issues with the sensor, an issue we've seen with under-display scanners since companies like Samsung first started using them. This update appears to fix some of the issues with the Pixel 6's sensor.
