The Pixel Watch 3 (starting at $349.99) is Google's latest smartwatch, the third in the Pixel line and rumored to be the future of smartwatches for Fitbit fans. (Google has denied rumors that it's phasing out the Versa or Sense, but if you visit fitbit.com today, you'll see a giant banner enticing you to pre-order a Pixel 3 . Take that for what you will.)
Pixel Watch 3: Scientific Review (Best Android Smartwatch!)
The new Pixel Watch is an improvement over previous Pixel models, with a brighter display and two screen sizes (larger wrists can rejoice, as one is 45mm). Battery life is better than previous Pixels, with my tests resulting in longer than the promised 36 hours of life – a significant jump from the previous model’s 24 hours of battery life. You’ll still want to charge it daily, but with around 36 hours of battery life, you should be able to do so at any time of day.
If you’re considering upgrading from a Fitbit smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 3 can’t match the nearly week-long battery life you’re used to, but it does have offline mapping that means you don’t need to bring your phone with you. The Pixel 3 also adds new fitness-focused features, including running dynamics like ground contact time and vertical oscillation. I found its heart rate sensors and GPS to be impressively accurate, too, with results comparable to the Garmin Forerunner I tested alongside it.
The Pixel Watch 3 I tested was the 41mm version, the smaller of the two sizes offered. It’s the same size as the Pixel Watch 2, and was a good fit for my relatively small wrist. If you prefer a larger watch, the Pixel 3 also comes in a 45mm size.
