I completely overcomplicated today's NYT Mini Crossword. I couldn't fathom the clue "place for a blowout" until it hit me — it was so obvious.

"Blowout" has different meanings depending on where you're from. My first thought was some kind of explosion or fight, but where does that happen? In reality, the answer was much simpler.

The answer to "place for a blowout" in today's crossword puzzle is "SALON". A blowout is another word for getting your hair blow-dried, so where better to do that than a salon? A blowout can also be defined as an outburst, an argument, or even an overwhelming victory. I personally never use the word salon when talking about a haircut. I call it a hairdresser or a barber, so I guess that's what confused me in the first place.
