The on-demand video store is expected to launch in early 2024, joining the platform's existing ad-supported content. According to Lowpass, "most studios" have already geared up to host their content on the Plex store, but we don't yet know what's coming to the library.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about an on-demand store from Plex. The company had hinted at its intention to launch the service since early 2020, but the launch was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Subsequent plans were put on hold due to a variety of factors, ranging from technical issues and studio approvals to a decline in advertising markets.
In addition to the on-demand video library, Plex is also reportedly working on improving the user experience of its platform. Significant changes are expected in terms of UI design and new social features are being added.
