ProMotion is a huge deal for the Mac. It makes everything run smoother, saves battery life, and even makes old movies look better. But without a touchscreen or Apple Pencil, is it as necessary on the Mac as it is on the iPad and iPhone?
"Today, the majority of displays refresh 60 times per second (60 Hz), regardless of what's on the screen — a video game, a movie, or a text document. The ProMotion technology in the new MacBook Pros adjusts the refresh rate based on what's on the screen," Serg Krivoblotsky, chief technology officer at software developer MacPaw, told Lifewire via direct message.
"When you read a text document, your laptop doesn't need to refresh the screen 60 times per second. In this case, the new MacBook Pro lowers the refresh rate. As a result, the lower refresh rate will extend battery life, and it all happens invisibly to the user."
