People underestimate how much data photos actually contain. They’re so much more than just images, and this new Proton Drive feature can help you protect that data.
Proton Drive Photos Backup for Android: Save your photos and videos with end-to-end encryption
Proton announced a new feature for Proton Drive on Thursday that will let you back up photos from your device to a secure, encrypted Proton Drive. Unfortunately, the feature is only available for Android devices for now, though Proton promises that an iOS version is in the works.
Proton has a reputation for being a secure service. Proton Drive is its storage vault, which the company claims is so well encrypted that even people working at Proton can’t see what you store on it. In a blog post announcing the new feature, Proton CEO Andy Yen said, “More than 70% of files uploaded to the cloud are photos. And automatic photo backup has been our most requested feature since Drive launched.”
The point is that photos contain a lot more personal information than you realize. Photos of people can provide biometric data, such as eye color, hair color, height, and weight. A location can be recognized by landmarks or environmental features captured in the photo.
