Both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 are receiving system updates today that add a number of new options and features.
How to Use Voice Commands on PS5 (Hey PlayStation!)
Sony says it listened to user feedback and requests for these latest system updates, and is adding new features to Party Chat. You can now create Open Parties that friends (and friends of friends) can join without an invitation, and Private Parties that are invite-only on both consoles. PS4 users can also manually adjust the volume of individual group chat members, which was previously only available on the PS5. On the PS5, you can also launch Share Play directly from the voice chat card instead of having to launch Share Screen first, making it easier to set up a group view.
New accessibility features have also been added. Ticks in settings should make it easier to know when something is on or off. Screen reader support for Arabic, Brazilian, Dutch, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, and Russian brings the total to 15 languages. And a mono setting for headphones that plays all sound through one side of the headset instead of the default 3D stereo sound is now available.
The PS5 update adds a preview (i.e., a test version, currently only in English) for Voice Command, available to accounts registered in the US and UK. Once the feature is enabled in the PS5 settings, you can say “Hey PlayStation” and ask it to find games, open an app, or control video playback.
