Sony just released a PS5 system update that adds a bunch of long-awaited features.
NEW PS5 System Update: Discord Voice Chat, VRR 1440p, redesigned game hubs, and more.
First, the company has significantly improved Discord support, allowing you to join Discord conversations directly from your console. The conversation must originate on a PC or mobile app, but once it’s started you can easily transfer the conversation to the PS5 using a series of prompts. This feature also brings cross-platform support, allowing you to chat with your friends who are playing on Xbox One or PC.
Discord integration also improves cross-platform crossplay, as you can organize play sessions without having to rely on in-game chat functions. Microsoft lets Xbox users participate in voice channels without the need for a phone or PC, so let's see if Sony continues to improve this feature to catch up with the competition.
The Discord stuff is just one aspect of this update, though, as it adds support for new voice commands. For example, ask the console to capture in-game footage and it will do so. You can even use voice commands to ask for custom clips, like asking the system to “capture the last three minutes of gameplay.”
