Razer is a company dedicated to high-performance gaming, from its award-winning keyboards and mice to its flashy Razer Phone handsets. The Razer Blade is another extension of that ethos. It’s a laptop built for high-end gaming, so you don’t have to make significant compromises on quality, even when you’re not at a desktop. And it looks good, too, thanks to its flashy, multi-colored keyboard backlight.

Granted, portable power doesn’t come cheap, and even the entry-level Razer Blade 15 from 2019 costs a pretty penny, with far more expensive upgrade options available for those willing to pay for extras and/or performance. Still, aside from a few glaring niggles, this is an impressive notebook that can keep you in the game wherever you go… well, anywhere near a power outlet, anyway. I put the base Razer Blade 15 through its paces for over 40 hours of testing, playing a variety of games, streaming video, and also using it as my daily work machine.

Gaming laptops come in all shapes and sizes, many of which adopt a flashy, overly stylized “gamer” aesthetic. The Razer Blade 15 thankfully opts for a more understated look: it’s a solid black brick of gaming prowess. Razer’s signature glowing, squiggly green snake logo is the only real indication that you’re handling a gaming laptop; otherwise, it’s pretty much matte black.
