Mark Zuckerberg announced the release date at the company’s Meta Connect conference on Wednesday. As the CEO previously revealed, the Quest 3 will start at $500 for the base 128GB model, with the company revealing today that the 512GB variant will carry a $650 price tag.
In addition to a new Qualcomm chipset that Meta claims offers twice the graphics performance of the Snapdragon XR2 in the Quest 2, the Quest 3 features full-color passthrough, thanks to the addition of extra external cameras and sensors. Users can double-tap the side of the headset at any time to see the space around them. Additionally, the Quest 3 can display the physical world with 10x the pixels of its predecessor.
“It understands your space so you can play with the world around you,” Zuckerberg said of the headset’s mixed reality capabilities. “The boundaries of your physical space can be expanded so you can be part of much bigger things.”
