CHANGED, 4:58 p.m. ET: Reddit, the popular online discussion platform, was experiencing widespread outages and bugs for nearly an hour on Wednesday.

User reports of issues with Reddit peaked just before 4 p.m. ET on Aug. 28, when there were more than 76,000 error messages, according to monitoring site Downdetector. Error messages displayed on Reddit pages included "An error has occurred. Please try again later" and "The content for this page could not be loaded." The error messages on Downdetector indicated that the Reddit app was also experiencing issues.

A message posted to Reddit's status page at 4:16 p.m. ET indicated that reddit.com's performance had degraded, with the note that "we are currently investigating this issue." An update at 4:45 p.m. ET stated that "a fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results." Access to the site and the app was soon restored.

The company has faced technical issues in the past, including a major outage in August last year and a five-hour outage in March 2023. According to Reddit, there are more than 100,000 active communities on the site from around the world, spanning a variety of topics and areas of interest.
