How to Fix the White Dotted Line Around an Icon – Windows 7, 8, 10.

Have you ever noticed that Windows sometimes gives your desktop icons a dotted border? It’s really annoying and definitely doesn’t look good with Windows 7’s clean and streamlined Aero interface. Here’s what I mean:

Grrrr! I'm one of those picky Windows users who likes things a certain way and I just hate that dotted border that appears on my desktop icons! What's really annoying is that after it appears, if you press a letter on the keyboard and one of the icons on the desktop happens to start with that letter, the focus jumps to that icon and fills it in and gives it the dotted border.

So how do you get rid of it? Well, you can't do it permanently. It's just part of Windows 7 and it won't just go away. Luckily, it's not a problem in Windows 10.
