I never thought I would be someone who would have security cameras outside my home. I had no electrical wiring, so battery powered cameras were the only option; I was skeptical about how good they would be and whether they would be worth the regular battery changes. And then there’s the subscription fee that most security camera brands charge, which adds up over time.
eufy 4G LTE Cam S330 – 4K Wireless, Solar Powered, 4G + WIFI Connected Tracking Security Camera
After testing outdoor security cameras from several brands, I've become a fan of Eufy's Solocam line. This line has no subscription or battery issues. (Unlike many competitors, Eufy cameras don't require a subscription to view and save clips.) Eufy's latest release, the Eufy 4G LTE Cam S330 ($249.99), is an addition with several notable new features, including the ability to switch between a 4G LTE card and Wi-Fi.
A few months ago, I tested two other cameras in this line, the wired Floodlight Cam E340 ($219.99) and the wireless Solocam S340 ($199.99). What I really liked about this line over other outdoor cameras I'd tested was the dual lenses: a macro lens and a micro lens survey your space in tandem, and you can easily switch between them. While even the macro lens can get great detail, the micro lens lets you really zoom in on specific areas. While I tested both the wired and wireless versions, I was most impressed with the wireless version, and with a small solar panel mounted above it, it never once ran out of power — not through weeks of cloudy PNW weather, not through the week-long ice and snow storm. It continued to produce exceptional 360-degree footage of the yard. The solar panel allows you to place the camera almost anywhere — the only caveat is that you'll need Wi-Fi.
This new 4G LTE Cam takes the same wire-free camera base and adds 4G capabilities, meaning you can literally place it anywhere as long as it gets minimal sunlight and has 4G coverage. Since Eufy doesn’t offer LTE coverage, the device comes with a promotional card from EIOT and 100GB of free data so you can test out the 4G capabilities, as well as a separate micro SD card for storage. I imagine most people will simply grab a SIM card from their wireless provider on an unlimited plan to use in their S330 – the EIOT card is just so you can try out the 4G LTE functionality. Topping up the card at their rates wouldn’t make sense given how much data you’ll use, although you certainly could.
