Tired of seeing how inhumane and transactional the hiring process could be, Rhett Lindsey decided to quit his job last fall, where he earned a salary of a few hundred dollars, to dismantle the system.
How can we eliminate bias in hiring?
Lindsey has been a recruitment professional since the beginning and has always enjoyed providing opportunities for people, especially when it comes to jobs. Although he enjoyed his work, he felt that there was a piece missing in certain companies: having a voice.
“As a Black queer man in tech, we’re few and far between, and I wasn’t really given the opportunity to be a part of the conversations that could excel in recruiting,” Lindsey told Lifewire in a phone interview. “It was frustrating and I felt like we were missing points and that I was contributing to a growing problem.”
That problem Lindsey is referring to is diversity and inclusion recruitment, which he aims to transform with Siimee (pronounced “see me”), an upcoming recruitment platform focused on who people really are. With this new tech startup, Lindsey aims to provide a fair and unbiased connection experience between job seekers and employers.
