League of Legends' Howling Abyss, also known as ARAM, is balanced separately from Summoner's Rift. For years, players have been asking Riot for an option to preview balance changes during champion selection. Now, one of the developers has finally addressed the topic by explaining the problems it would cause.
Patch 14.16 – FULL PREVIEW! (Major changes coming)
In a response on League's subreddit on May 1, Rioter Barack Probama explained that introducing the option to view ARAM-specific balance changes during champ selection would be information overload and create toxicity. The easiest way to display balance changes, at least in their opinion, would be with a small up or down arrow to indicate whether a champ has been buffed or weakened. If there are no ARAM tuning changes, Riot could mark it with a tilde (~).
Of course, it would add clutter to your UI, since you’d have to see it for every champion in the lobby, including rerolled champions and champions your teammates have selected. It would also lead to more toxicity in the lobby. Your teammates might trash you for picking a weakened champion, become hyper-fixated on the most meta team comps, and even pressure you into playing something you don’t want to.
Troublemaker Barack Probama thinks we can have the best of both worlds by including a "small informational window that explains the last 3 patches, as well as the ARAM adjustments they have." This way you would see the information you need, but it would cause less friction and League players wouldn't be as toxic because of your choices.
