The wish of League of Legends players and fans has come true: a third international tournament will be officially added to the 2025 calendar.

The news comes via a Riot Games dev update on June 11, which sees the League esports calendar look drastically different following the 2024 World Championship and beyond. Regional competitions will begin earlier in the year, culminating in an event currently scheduled for March. While this tournament isn’t expected to be as grand as Worlds, it will fill out the calendar year a little more and offer the League’s best and brightest another chance to prove themselves on the global stage.
This confirms rumors of an expanded international calendar for 2025 in April, which would likely mean the Mid-Season Invitational and even the World Championship being pushed back slightly to accommodate the new event. Not much else is known about the tournament, aside from the rumors from April suggesting that one team from each major region would be invited.
While not an entirely new tournament, it was clear that Riot had massive changes planned for League’s international events following a major overhaul of the formats for MSI and Worlds. With today’s announcement seeing the merger of the Americas sub-regions into a dual-conference league, the continued consolidation of the Southeast Asia and Oceania regions, and a uniformly split schedule, there’s certainly room for League to squeeze in another major tournament – something the scene has been clamoring for for years.
