League of Legends’ big mid-season patch is scheduled for May 15, and Riot Games is already hard at work preparing for the next update, 14.11. The developers are currently testing large-scale changes to Ornn’s upgrades.
ORNN ITEMS REVAMP! Big changes coming! (PBE Preview)
According to a post on League's subreddit on May 14, Ornn's core mechanic, which revolves around crafting and upgrading his and his teammates' items, is being updated. This means that he will now be able to upgrade almost every upgradeable item except Mejai's Soulstealer, Vigilant Wadstone, Tear items, and all support quest items. The value of all upgraded items will be 1,000 gold.
For example, Kraken Slayer, which gives 50 attack damage, 40 percent attack speed, and seven percent movement speed, will give you 64 attack damage, 56 attack speed, and seven percent movement speed after Ornn's upgrade. Extra health works differently, and its value decreases as you gain more of this stat.
Ornn's upgrades still apply to your first slot item, and you'll need to be careful where you place them. Selling the upgraded item and then buying another item that you want to upgrade won't work, and you'll be stuck with the piece that was originally upgraded. Unfortunately, the upgraded items no longer have unique names. In Patch 14.11, their names will instead be formatted as "Kraken Slayer (Masterwork)."
