Any League of Legends fan who follows the title outside of playing should be well aware of how large the Chinese community is, and Riot Games now plans to pay more attention to them in balancing decisions.
Patch 14.16 Preview | League of Legends
In the latest League Patch 14.12 preview, Phreak, a former play-by-play caster and current developer, shed some light on the company’s plans for the game. He outlined how the team behind the patch notes will most likely prioritize Chinese data when implementing gameplay changes going forward, given how large the Asian country’s servers are compared to others.
“Of course, the player populations are very high in NA, EU West, and Korea. […] And we're reaching a point soon where we're going to start incorporating Chinese players and Chinese player sentiment more into our pick and ban rate data,” Phreak said.
He stressed that it may look strange at first, as some of the changes may not reflect what is needed in North American and other solo queues. But Phreak believes it is a necessary direction to take, as there are "tens of millions of players [in China]. […] It will be strange, at some point you will encounter it, and it will be correct," he summarized.
