The League of Legends community was divided during the debate over the announcement of the game's most expensive skin bundle. Riot Games has finally responded to the negative reactions from the community.
FAKER'S AHRI SKIN IS $500 – League of Legends
“There is a good opportunity to both honor iconic professional players and help cover the costs of esports,” League Studio Head Andrei “Meddler” Van Roon said on Reddit, emphasizing that Faker’s cosmetic sales would go a long way toward the sustainability of the esports ecosystem.
According to Riot, esports primarily makes its money from a "mix of sponsorships and in-game cosmetic sales," and this event, Hall of Legends, was a "good opportunity" to experiment with the dedicated Hall of Legends event. This "customized content" was an excellent way to do that.
Meddler also said that Riot Games should offer content at a wide range of different price points, as the event pass, which retails for 1,950 RP, is already a great deal for most. However, the company tried to accommodate players who wanted "special event skins, with a combination of new features and exclusivity or both."
