Former UFC fighter and actress Ronda Rousey has apologized on social media for an incident 11 years ago in which she shared a conspiracy theory video about the Sandy Hook shooting. Although Rousey deleted the video post at the time, telling her followers that "she never meant to offend or hurt anyone," she has now released a lengthy statement on social media admitting that she deserved to be hated and "should have been canceled."

"I can't tell you how many times I've rewritten this apology over the past 11 years," Rousey wrote. "How many times I convinced myself it wasn't the right time or that I would cause more harm by doing it. But 11 years ago, I made the most regrettable decision of my life. I watched a Sandy Hook conspiracy video and reposted it on Twitter. I didn't even believe it, but was so shocked by the truth that I grabbed an alternative fiction to cling to. I quickly realized my mistake and took it down, but the damage had been done."

"By some miracle it seemed to have flown under the media radar, I was never asked about it and so never spoke about it again, afraid that bringing it to the attention would have the opposite effect of the intended one – it might increase the views of those conspiracy videos and selfishly make even more people aware that I was ignorant, self-centered and tone-deaf enough to share one in the first place," she added.
