It's an open secret that Apple is developing a mixed reality headset to rival the Meta Quest and Microsoft HoloLens, but it appears the official launch may still be a while away.

Reports suggested that the unnamed headset would be unveiled at the company’s spring launch event, but that’s no longer on the cards, according to securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Instead, the analyst suggests the headset will launch alongside the iPhone 15 in the fall or sometime toward the end of the year.

What’s holding you back? This is a new segment of the industry for Apple, and as seen with the launch of the original Watch, they want to get it right. Kuo notes that the headset is behind schedule due to concerns about drop testing of mechanical components. In other words, they’re not sure if every headset component is durable enough for a wide release.

There are also some delays on the software front, as the headset requires an entirely new software platform. Additionally, Kuo says there have been issues with the availability of crucial software development tools.
