Samsung has decided to stop showing ads in its own apps and widgets later this year.
The First Apps You Should UNINSTALL on Your Samsung Galaxy
Samsung’s addition of ads into its default apps like Samsung Weather and Samsung Pay was a niggle for many who had just spent hundreds of dollars on a new phone. It appears Samsung has taken this to heart. In a recent company meeting, as reported by Yonhap News, mobile chief Roh Tae-moon stated that he wants to eliminate ads from native apps.
Samsung didn’t specifically say it would remove ads for every default app, though that seems to be the implication. In a statement to The Verge, the company cited a few specific examples, such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Weather.
The news has many Samsung users both ecstatic and annoyed, as they're happy to see ads go but annoyed by the baffling addition of them in the first place. Twitter user @_arj123 summed it up when he said, "What a revolutionary feature! No ads! But seriously, good on them for finally realizing that ads don't belong on smartphones… especially not on flagships. I don't know who put them there in the first place."
