It’s no secret that Samsung plans to bring a slew of AI features to its higher-end devices, like the Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9. But it appears these AI features will also be trickling down to some older phones, most notably the Galaxy S22.

Roh Tae-moon, President and Head of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung, revealed during a shareholder meeting that the company is “exploring whether Galaxy AI can be applied to past products, including the Galaxy S22 series.”
Bringing cutting-edge AI features to older phones won’t be easy, as they rely heavily on the hardware capabilities of the device. While Galaxy AI will combine on-device technology with cloud-based AI, it’s going to take a lot of effort.
Adapting AI features to older hardware may not yield results on par with Samsung’s more premium devices, and users should temper their expectations from the start. But it seems that Samsung wants to get Galaxy AI into the hands of as many users as possible. We can only hope that it doesn’t break the features that do work.
