Samsung has taken many cues from Apple over the years, including the recent “tick-tock” development model for the Galaxy S line: one year (the “tick”), Samsung unveils a dramatic design change and sets a fresh tone for the line, while the next year (the “tok”) typically introduces modest refinements and improvements.

When it released in spring 2017, the Galaxy S8 represented that fresh new tone with its extra-tall screen and reduced bezels. The Galaxy S9, released in 2018, is visually very similar. And that’s no bad thing: Samsung’s flagship phone is still one of the most impressive devices you can buy today, and it’s packed with enough niceties to push you away from its many rivals.

We tested the Galaxy S9 for over a week, including its beautiful display and considerable processing power, and compared it to other leading smartphones available today.
