Samsung T5 Portable SSD: Review
When it comes to storing your files, you might think bigger is better. Samsung’s T5 Portable SSD will change your mind. This lightweight solid-state drive is the follow-up to the company’s popular T3 SSD, with a number of tweaks that make it easy to quickly transfer files on the go. We put the T5 to the test to see who it’s best suited for.
The T5 is a modest 2.3 x 3 inches (HW) device, easily fitting in your back pocket. It’s about half the size of most smartphones, making it easy to carry around. Frankly, we couldn’t believe how small it was when we unboxed it. Weighing in at just 1.6 ounces, it’s a lightweight drive that looks pretty unobtrusive. It’s definitely designed for the traveling creator rather than the work-from-home type.
With curved edges and a light blue color, the T5 channels the aesthetic of a mid-2000s iPod that feels a little dated. It’s not the prettiest device, but it looks better than most other drives we tested. Because of its small size, you won’t even notice it most of the time. It’s also shockproof, so you don’t have to worry too much about dropping it. The three-year limited warranty is in line with the rest of the industry.
