During its Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, Samsung announced that its new Galaxy S24 flagship smartphones will feature Corning's new variant of Gorilla Glass, called Corning Gorilla Armor.

The new material for the smartphone case reduces reflections by up to 75 percent, the company says, and increases durability compared to previous aluminosilicate materials, like those seen on iPhones or earlier Samsung devices. Additionally, Corning created a new lab test using a “Scratch Bot” to test how well the new material handles scratches caused by everyday use and wear and tear. The company reports that the new Gorilla Armor is up to four times more scratch-resistant than previous versions.
Additionally, Corning claims that Gorilla Armor contains an average of 25% recycled content and that UL Solutions' reliability proves this.
"Gorilla Armor combines Corning's research and engineering prowess with Samsung's consumer-centric design and focus on user experience," said David Velasquez, vice president and general manager at Corning, in a statement. "This latest innovation simultaneously addresses the need for durability and our increasing need for better optics – bringing the mobile phone experience of the future into the present."
