Samsung's new ViewFinity S9 monitor is an almost exact copy of the Apple Studio Display, but with many of Samsung's extras.
Samsung Viewfinity S9 5K vs Apple Studio Display
The ViewFinity S9 is a 27-inch 5K monitor with a beautiful integrated stand, and it’s designed to work with Macs. But anyone hoping for a cheaper alternative to Apple’s $1,599 display is going to be disappointed, as the S9 costs exactly the same, down to the penny. So why bother with the Samsung version when you can have the original?
"While Samsung is likely trying to compete with Apple with their latest monitor, it's unlikely to be very popular given the similar price point to Apple. Samsung products are popular because they are generally much more affordable, without sacrificing too much quality," Troy Portillo, director of operations at online learning platform Studypool, told Lifewire via email. "If the price is the same as Apple's, then people will likely opt for higher quality and go with Apple."
First, let’s get the specs out of the way. These displays are both 27-inch, 5K models with a resolution of 5,120 x 2,880. Both have webcams (Apple’s is built-in, Samsung’s is on the top bezel), and both can tilt 90 degrees to create a vertical desktop (though Apple’s display requires Apple’s Tilt Stand to do so, which costs another $400).
