SANTIAGO, Chile — Saturday night culminated in an awards ceremony, with Santiago Maza and Diego Luna’s passion project “State of Siege” taking home the top honor. Santiago de Chile’s Sanfic and industry arm Sanfic Industria delivered a vibrant edition, cementing the joint event as one of the three most important festival markets in South America.
This year’s dual event also reflects larger workplace changes underway across industries in Latin America and much of the international marketplace. Here are seven takeaways and highlights from the 2024 event, which runs August 18-25 in Santiago de Chile.
Other major festivals in Latin America have seen their budgets slashed by governments, though the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival in October and Mexico’s Guadalajara Festival in June could make a comeback. Meanwhile, Sanfic and Sanfic Industria have held their ground and even grown, recovering pre-pandemic levels of 40,000 ticket sales in 2023.
