Hunting Shiny has become a lot easier in recent Pokémon games, but Scarlet and Violet players would like to see a change to a simple statistic that should be less misleading.
I beat ALL Pokémon Scarlet using ONLY Shiny Pokémon (The Movie)
With Scarlet and Violet’s open-world setting, it feels like a Shiny Pokémon could pop up at any moment, and those chances can be increased with Mass Outbreaks, a Shiny Charm, a Shiny sandwich, or all three. This can encourage you to keep an eye out for rare Shinies that appear throughout your adventure. I know I’ve accidentally stumbled across a few Shinies while traveling or EV training, and I wouldn’t want to know how many I would have missed on-screen or in battle if I hadn’t been paying attention.
Well, if you look at your player profile, there is actually a “Shiny Pokémon Battled” counter. From the label, you might assume that this is tracking all of the wild Shiny Pokémon you’ve encountered in battle. And generally speaking, most players would try to catch every Shiny Pokémon they come across. So if that “Shiny Pokémon Battled” counter says that you’ve “battled” a few Shinies that you don’t remember battling, you might panic and think that you’ve missed multiple Shiny encounters. That’s exactly what happened to one player in an April 18th Reddit thread.
Fortunately, other players were quick to point out that the counter has a misleading name. Rather than counting all of your battles, it serves as a way to keep track of how many Shiny species you've seen, even when not in battle. This includes any Shiny Pokémon you've obtained through other methods such as transferring, trading, evolution, or Mystery Gift. However, the counter won't include the same species. So it's entirely possible that the number of "Shiny Pokémon Battled" doesn't correspond to the exact number of Shiny Pokémon you have.
