The Scener remote viewing party Chrome extension now supports HBO Now and Go, so you can watch Game of Thrones, Westworld, or other HBO series with friends around the world.

Host a viewing party with Scener

What is Scener? Like Netflix Party, Scener lets you set up a virtual cinema and invite your friends to join you in watching shows remotely in real time. You set up a virtual cinema, send your friends a code, and they can join in using their own Chrome browser. They’ll also need to have an account for Netflix and now HBO to watch anything on either streaming service.

How it works: Scener is a Chrome extension; once installed, a small icon will appear in your Chrome icon tray. You click the icon to launch Scener, and then you’ll be given a link or code that you can share with your friends. Once they’ve installed the extension and logged into the service you’re using together, you can all watch the show and even chat using your webcam or computer microphone. Up to 20 people can watch at once, as long as they all have their own streaming service accounts, with the possibility of more.

Bottom Line: While it would be nice to let people without HBO or Netflix accounts watch along with us, just like we can at home, fear of piracy is likely the reason Scener is letting everyone log in. Watching shows together can be a great way to feel less isolated as we hunker down and stay home during this pandemic.
