Apple's recently updated 27-inch iMac will almost certainly be the last iMac ever to feature an Intel chip. Future versions will run on Apple Silicon, Apple-designed chips like those in the iPhone, iPad and even the Apple TV. These Apple Silicon Macs are scheduled to go on sale before the end of the year, so now is not a good time to buy an Intel-based Mac.
This is why YOU should buy this INTEL Mac!
"I think a lot of people are going to hold off on Apple Silicon," Cult of Mac author Leander Kahney told Lifewire via iMessage. "My iMac is pretty old and normally I would definitely be looking for one of these new ones. But I can still let it tinker for another year."
The new iMac looks exactly the same as it has since 2012. New in this version are some basic upgrades: the Intel CPU is faster, you can add more RAM and storage, and there are improved graphics processors. But there are also some brand-new features that are surprising in an end-of-the-line update.
The first thing you’ll notice, literally, is the new nano-texture glass option. This is Apple’s take on a non-reflective matte display, first seen on the $5,000 Pro Display XDR. Apple etches the glass at the nanometer level to eliminate reflections without reducing contrast or making the image milky. It’s a neat trick, but it’s a $500 add-on and you can only clean it with a special Apple cloth. The display also uses TrueTone, which changes the color of the screen to match its surroundings.
