Occasionally in Pokémon Go, there are Special Research tasks that require you to choose from multiple paths to earn different rewards. The Dawn of a New Discovery has three choices to choose from to earn multiple rewards: the Emolga, Crabrawler, or Ducklett branching path.

The choice is entirely up to you, and you’ll have to make it after you’ve completed the first set of tasks for this Special Research. The choice is important, as it provides a selection of specific tasks to complete, with slightly different rewards. However, like many of the smaller Special Research tasks in Pokémon Go, the changes are moderate and won’t have a major impact on your overall gameplay during Pokémon Go Fest 2024.

While it comes down to personal choice, I would recommend going with the Emolga path for The Dawn of a New Discovery Special Research. Emolga is a more desirable path than the other paths Emolga uses in the Pokémon Go Battle League, and catching it is a must. Crabrawler isn’t necessarily the best Pokémon in the mobile game, and while Ducklett is a solid option in the Little Cups, they do appear regularly in multiple in-game events.

Outside of the Pokémon choices for The Dawn of a New Discovery, the tasks don’t change all that much. Whichever path you choose, you’ll be given tasks to catch that specific Pokémon. You need to catch seven, so you need to catch seven Emolga. For those who don’t want to invest too much time in catching that specific Pokémon, it might be better to go with Ducklett or Crabrawler, as they spawn much more frequently in Pokémon Go. The reward for catching seven is a guaranteed encounter with that Pokémon.
