To brave the seas in Sea of Thieves, you’ll need crew members willing to brave the most demanding situations: supreme sailors who will never leave your side. However, if you want to find more people, you can play with an Open Crew, which lets you board the ship with random teammates.

While some are new players joining your Crew to improve their basic skills, others might just be there to sabotage your loot and dash your dreams. So, is playing Open Crew in Sea of Thieves a good idea?

When my friends are offline in Sea of Thieves, I usually try out Open Crew if my wits allow it. On a good day, I have the privilege of having people in my Crew who listen to my every word, and we complete quests flawlessly and divide the treasure. But on a bad day, you might get someone who messes with you and sinks your boat in no time.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get crew members with microphones in Open Crew. Otherwise, most casual players will only communicate via chat. Expect a touch of toxicity when things go south when other pirates suddenly attack you.
