Spectre Divide introduces tactical down-the-sight shooting action and ramps up the team play with three-on-three action, where all players control two different bodies. You can try it out for yourself during this weekend's playtest.
Only 1 MINUTE that Shroud bends his money…
Branded as a “free-to-play, 3v3 tac shooter powered by Duality,” Spectre Divide is a new entrant into the live service market, brought to life by Mountaintop Studios, an independent studio packed with industry veterans who have tapped Shroud in an advisory role in an effort to challenge the giants of Counter-Strike, VALORANT, and Rainbow Six: Siege in space.
The gameplay trailer for Spectre Divide went live on August 1st, and immediately focused on the special double-body element that should set the title apart from the crowd. With the currently trendy, sleek, cartoonish art style, complaints about readability seem to be minimal, as long as you can wrap your head around the complexity of the gameplay.
In an interview with PC Gamer , game director Lee Horn was quoted as saying that the original idea was to create a pure three-vs-three experience, but realised that a twist would be needed to make it work. "What happens is, if you have one defender on each site, imagine three attackers attacking that defender and taking them out – the space is sort of dissolved. We have the site, we take over. That game is still fun, but it's not 10,000 hours of fun." Then came the big idea: why not give players the cherry one more time? He also revealed that they've been running closed tests of the game "for over a year" at this point, suggesting that there's a well-honed formula.
