Players around the world are already wondering about the Sims 5 release date – here’s everything we know about it. With the launch of The Sims 4 almost a decade away, several Simmers and players have been waiting for The Sims 5 for a long time. Even though it’s officially in the works, EA has released several DLC expansions for The Sims 4. That said, you might not have to spend any more money or Simoleons with the next sequel in line. Luckily, development studio Maxis shared some information and details about this highly anticipated launch at Behind the Sims Summit.
RUMOR: The Sims 5 coming out this year?!
As stated by the developers at Maxis, The Sims 5 is still early in development. So we may have to wait until 2024 or early 2025 for an announcement of The Sims 5 release date. While we don’t have a release date yet, Maxis did share their working title or code name: Project Rene. This name was chosen to bring to mind words like renewal, renaissance, and rebirth. However, it’s pretty uncertain if any part of this working title will be added to The Sims 5.
However, the dev team shared that they plan to share all updates and in-game development. We’ll be getting more in-progress work, behind-the-Sims content, sneak peeks, and exploration as time goes on. And you know what’s best? The Sims Franchise Creative VP, Lyndsay Pearson, stated that the team would be launching Early Access to Project Rene for small groups over time. She also added, “It’s super early for us (the Sims dev team) and we’ve never shared information about our games before they launch to the world.”
Project Rene game director Grant Rodiek said that The Sims 5 will be both single-player and multiplayer. While it's unclear how that would fit into the Sims franchise, it would be great to finally have some multiplayer features. Rodiek also said that The Sims 5 won't be an MMO. He added, "You can play by yourself, on your terms. And then again, when you want to play on your terms, you can invite other people to come and play with you."
