How a small software update caused a global IT crisis
Sky News and other international broadcasters were experiencing disruptions on Friday morning due to a global technical outage linked to a security update for Microsoft systems.
Comcast's news channel was off the air for about an hour, coming back online around 9:00 a.m. local time. However, the broadcasts were in a bare-bones studio, there were no chyrons, and the anchors were apparently reading from printed newspapers instead of an autocue.
Sky News presenter Anna Jones told viewers the channel was “operating at minimal capacity” and was “working to improve” its output.
