Slack has updated its iOS and Android mobile apps to better align with changes it made to its desktop apps in March. The new mobile version will be rolling out to all users over the next week.

Slack says: “In parallel with our efforts on desktop, we’ve also been overhauling our mobile apps to make them easier to use and optimized for Slack on the go: quickly stay updated, respond to DMs and mentions, send messages, and get work done with the shortcuts feature,” Slack’s Preet Mangat, Johnny Rodgers, and Cory Bujnowicz wrote in the announcement.
Accessibility tabs: Slack Mobile now has tabs along the bottom to take you to the places in the app you use often. This, the design team says, is to give mobile users a familiar interface instead of the confusing previous one, which used a slide-out sidebar instead.
The tabs include a Home button, which pushes new content to the top of the list, a Direct Message (DM) button, so you can jump straight to your one-on-one conversations, and a Mentions and Reactions button, which shows all of those types of interactions in one easy-to-find place. Finally, there’s a You tab, which lets you manage your availability and online presence much faster than before.
