Imagine watching your favorite sports team, feeling the frustration of defeat and the sweet joy of victory. What if there was a wearable device that could quantify that emotional data?
Manchester City launches smart scarf to measure instant fan reactions
Well, Cisco has created just that, in collaboration with British football giants Manchester City. The duo have developed a smart scarf that measures physiological data and translates these measurements into an assessment of the emotions of fans as they watch Man City battle against rivals.
The scarf features a patented EmotiBit sensor that rests on the neck when worn. This sensor contains several integrated smaller sensors, including a PPG sensor for heart rate, accelerometer, temperature sensor and electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor. They work together to measure a plethora of changes as Man City fans watch the latest match.
The EDA sensor specifically measures small changes in skin sweat, which translates into an accurate measurement of your stress and emotional state. The soccer organization hopes to use these scarves to obtain quantified data on the movement, heart rate and emotional state of its fans.
