Your phone may ask for help after a car accident.
The Incredible Tech That Helps You Survive Car Crashes
iPhones could automatically call 911 if they detect you're in a crash, according to a new report. Google's Pixel phones can already use information like your phone's location, motion sensors and nearby sounds to monitor a potential accident. It's part of a growing push to use phones to monitor car safety.
“The amount of data captured by a modern smartphone is precise enough that we can use the sensor feeds to determine not only that an accident has occurred, but also the details behind the impact and its aftermath,” Mubbin Rabbani of Agero, a company that uses smartphones to detect car crashes, told Lifewire in an email interview.
According to The Wall Street Journal (paywall), Apple could release technology next year that would allow your Apple Watch and iPhone to use sensors to detect crashes.
